Our latest project ‘Blue Sky to Green Earth’ (BS2GE) connects learners with STFC-funded researchers and professionals. Through interactive workshops and events, students will learn how innovative ‘Blue Sky’ research supported by STFC contributes to solving real-world sustainability challenges on our ‘Green Earth.’ The project aims to inspire young people to see STEM careers as viable, understand the steps to achieve them, and recognise their societal impact.

By introducing role models and showcasing real people, BS2GE will inspire young people aged 9 to 11 by highlighting the career and progression pathways across the wide variety of sectors supported by STFC, helping them to improve their confidence in exploring such career opportunities.

Are you conducting or have previously supported Blue Sky research that could or has helped the environment and sustainability?

Do you want to share your passion for your role with young people, as well as important career advice based on your own experiences.

We are seeking people who are carrying out or supporting STFC or UKRI Blue Sky research who can provide 1 – 4 hours (with travel) of their time between September 2015 and March 2026 to engage with the BS2GE project between September 2025 and March 2026 through a variety of different activities such as: taking part in an in-class workshop; participating in a 20-minute webinar; creating a pre-recorded interview; and providing information for personal profiles.

Through participation, you could share with young people:

·         The work or research you are doing

·         The real-world uses of the technology you are developing through work or research

·         Your own career journey and information about opportunities in your sector

·         Advice you could give to young people about careers in your sector

As part of GS2GE, participating pupils will create a creative project showcasing their interest in the research

that is been conducted. This work will be displayed in an online virtual environment. The work or research

you are doing can also be showcased in our sustainable careers’ virtual environment at no extra cost.
