Funding from STFC Spark Award for the What Are Things Made Of? (WATMO) project

We are pleased to announce that we have been successful in a bid to Science Technology Facilities Council (STFC) for funding to develop and run our What are Things Made of? (WATMO) project with primary schools

The WATMO project will introduce young people aged 8 to 11 years old to the work that scientists, apprentices, and engineers are doing to answer big questions, including: what is the universe made of, and what new materials can be created that will help reduce the impact of plastic pollution?

The WATMO project will be delivered through a series of live and webinar-based interactive workshops with professionals and academics who are working on addressing these challenges.

Through the WATMO project, STFC funded researchers, post-grad students and apprentices will participate in workshops/webinars with young people to share:

·         What they and their colleagues have discovered about important questions

·         The technology they are developing and using to carry out this research

·         Their own career journey, the various opportunities available across the science and engineering sectors, and any advice that they can give to help young people achieve their career goals and take a more active interest in science

Virtual STFC Visitor Centre

The WATMO project will involve developing a virtual STFC visitor centre. At this centre the work of the young people who took part in the WATMO project will be exhibited. Visitors will also be able to find out about the work STFC funded researchers are doing to explore the question of What are things made of.
